How to test your AI agent before turning it on for every customer

The biggest worry when putting an AI agent on WhatsApp is simple: what if it answers a real customer wrongly? ChatSense’s Test mode is there to remove that fear. You talk to the agent, adjust it, and only then turn it on for everyone.

What Test mode is

Each agent is in one of three states: Off, Testing or Active. While testing, the agent replies only to the contacts you add to the test list: your own WhatsApp, for example, or an Instagram, Messenger or Telegram profile.

All other conversations stay with your team, exactly as if the agent were off: no automatic reply and no notice to the customer. People writing to your company notice nothing different.

What keeps working for everyone

Test mode changes only who gets the agent’s replies. Reminders, appointment confirmations and template messages keep going out normally to all customers. You do not have to pause your operation to test.

How to test in practice

  • Add your own contact to the test list.
  • Talk like a customer would: ask about price, hours, address, ask for a person, send an audio message.
  • When an answer is off, adjust the knowledge base or the agent’s instructions and test again.
  • When you are happy, use Activate for everyone. One click turns the agent on for all customers.
  • If needed, you can go back to testing at any time.

Where it shows and who knows

Every mode change is recorded in the audit log. In the inbox and on the agent screen the state shows as Test mode, so your team knows that agent is not yet serving everyone. The feature is on web, Android and iPhone, on every plan that includes an AI agent.

During onboarding the agent already starts in test

In assisted onboarding the agent starts in Test mode: you chat with it on your own WhatsApp, the team adjusts it with you, and only then is it activated for customers. Note that Test mode is a switch on the agent, not an evaluation period for the product. To get to know ChatSense before buying, the path is the demonstration.
